Level 1: The Basics of Reading and Writing
This is the most important year of Greek School, because the students who attend will learn how to read, i.e. decode words!
The kids will be taken through basic reading and writing. The focus is not so much on the book as it is to be able to identify the letters, decode basic words and build vocabulary.
We will start with a book similar to those used by native Greek-speaking students in Greece. It's called an Alphabetarion. There will not be one English word for a while, the point being to have the students see as much Greek as possible. No one, not even parents, need worry about that. Our focus will be on writing and vocabulary. Generally, we will do one unit a week.
